If someone you know is at risk of developing prostate cancer, or already have the disease here are some options for the diet for prostate cancer research from both sides of the Atlantic, which will be of interest to you. Drink 8 ounces of pomegranate juice has been shown to delay the progression of localized prostate cancer in the U.S. a study.

What's more, United Kingdom, researchers found that a once daily dose of vitamin D can be an effective treatment for prostate caners in some patients.

The study by U.S. researchers involved 48 men with prostate cancer have been treated either with surgery or radiotherapy were asked to drink an 8 oz glass of pomegranate juice every day.

Even after treatment for cancer, like many men, these issues still have detectable levels of PSA.

When the study began in 2003, issues of PSA, prostate specific antigen, a marker used to control this type of cancer, doubles every 15 months. As the men drank pomegranate juice each day, the time required to duplicate PSA levels over time.

When the study ended in 2006, the team followed the patients every three months, by this time had PSA results four times longer than the double, as he had at the beginning of the study.

Important to know that the research was funded by the owners of POM Wonderful Co., the company that makes the pomegranate juice drink to the men as part of the investigation. Five of the six researchers involved in the study also highlights the links with the manufacturer of juice.

Medicine now recognizes that the fight against cancer substances are naturally part of many foods, including a juice Granada.

The active chemicals, known as ellagitannins, are also found in fruits such as strawberries, raspberries, and muscadine grapes. The idea is that when swallowed the juice of the ellagitannins are released, it became known urolithins chemicals that are able to fight prostate cancer and possibly other cancers.

A 2007 study conducted using in particular the extract of Grenada that feeding the mice that had human tumors implanted in their small bodies, found that the juice caused tumors to grow more slowly.

There is also a great interest in vitamin D and prostate cancer, which after 2005 some research suggests that exposure to sunlight may reduce the risk of prostate cancer.

United Kingdom, researchers conducted a small-scale study involving 26 men with recurrent prostate cancer, each took a daily dose of vitamin D.

Of the subjects in the investigation, five responded to treatment ... PSA in men declined by more than half in two others was reduced by 25-50% and a man who fell in less than 25%. One subject was able to sustain the drop in PSA levels over three years.

Researchers suspect that vitamin D, once inside the body, it may interfere with the effect of androgen receptor that is stimulated by hormones (testosterone) and has been suspected to have a link to prostate cancer.

Experts believe that the prostate uses vitamin D to help in the growth of normal prostate cells, and perhaps put an end to the invasion or spread of cancer cells throughout the body.

Of course it takes more work, and men with prostate cancer are urged to talk to your doctor - before making any changes in your diet or taking any supplement.

However, in terms of keeping your options for prostate cancer by adding a serving of fresh pomegranate juice to their menu from time to time certainly can not hurt, and there are many natural forms, such as eating foods rich in vitamin D and get the right amount of sun exposure, you can use to maintain a good level of this essential vitamin in your body.
